The Chinese government intends to welcome 500,000 international students into their universities by 2020, so the country is trying to make the visa process easier for international students.
There are two types of visa for international students, X1 and X2, and they depend on whether you stay in China for less than 180 days or longer. This article simplifies the visa application process so you can easily catch up.
Visa X1 is for courses over 180 days
All students studying in China for more than 180 days must apply for this visa, with the following required documents:
· A valid passport during stay in China, including extra pages.
· Visa application with photo
· One original AND one photocopy of the offer letter, issued by the school that you will study in China.
• One original and one copy of the "Application for Study Visa in China" (JW201 and JW202. JW201 and JW202 are issued based on the type of scholarship you received from your school. The Chinese government will know for themselves what kind of grant they should give you, and your school should tell you what type of application you should complete.
Visa X2 courses are for less than 180 days
All students studying in China for less than 180 days must apply for this visa
Here are the papers you need to prepare:
· A valid passport during your stay in China, along with extra pages.
· Visa application with photos
· One original AND one photocopy of your offer letter, issued by the school you will study in China.
Expenses for visa
Depending on your nationality, your Chinese visa fee will range from £ 20 to £ 100. Contact your university, or visit the Chinese Embassy website in Vietnam for more information on this fee.
The university will assist you with your visa application process, so please always contact the International Admissions Office if you have questions.
After arriving in China, you will need to apply for a residence permit. You will have to do this yourself at the police station closest to where you live. This should also be done every time you move.
